Isn't global cooling more concerning than global warming?

My question is if the temperatures were to cool which some scientists believe it will, wouldn't the effects be more severe than global warming? During the middle ages there was a warm period in which crops flourished and then there was a little ice age causing crops to die and people starved. In my opinion the next ice age will be more devastating to man then the warming that is occurring today. What are your guys and gals thoughts?
