QuickTime Errors 2048 and 2041 and no sound .mov files?

I've been converting a movie flie(.vob) from a DVD I bought. Many of the .mp4(MPEG4) files I've created in this process are unreadable because of errors 2048 and 2041 in QuickTime. The .mov files that I've tried have no audio, either. I've been demuxing and remuxing them to get rid of audio sync problems, but these errors are crippling my progress. I've tried renaming them to .3gp files, but it hasn't worked. My goal is to get an MPEG4 video file with 480x320 resolution at 768kb/s video and 128kb/s audio so I can play it on my iPod touch (1G). Any solutions to these errors and bugs?
