Why does my car only starts with jumper cables?

it sounds like a bad connection on the battery. remove, clean and reinstall the cables, TIGHTEN THEM, and try it again. the next possibility is an intermittant solenoid, but that should be new with the new starter, right? maybe get a warranty replacement on the one you bought if the cable cleaning doesnt work. good luck
