Is it wise to give cartoon characters for children's entertainment ' appeal'?
It's not wise in the sense of helping kids grow up to be mature and well balanced, but it's VERY wise in terms of marketing and sales of advertisers products and videos, games and toys based on those characters. Every cartoon artist knows that ' sells'. But only you as a parent or guardian or older brother/sister can decide what you want to emphasize to the children in your care. Different children mature at different ages and gain an interest in the opposite at different ages. There's no sense in allowing children, who do not have enough perspective or understanding, to make up their own minds at what age they will have or with whom. Those who want the children to decide sound to me like perverts fishing for victims.
